Purchasing a new Dehumidifier can be a complete minefield; one where you certainly do not get what you pay for. Some brands produce a range of duds and a couple manufacture products that put the others to shame. Today we have made it easy for you. In this article we have picked the two absolute best dehumidifier manufacturers, Delonghi and Ebac. We will review the models that they produce side-by-side so that you can make an informed choice based on your needs and bank balance. We have our favourite yes (find it here), but rest assured that all of the models we’ll show you here have been rigorously tested and will serve you very well indeed.
Whether it’s your house, caravan, boat or holiday home, condensation filling the windows, mould in the corners of the room, peeling wallpaper and damp walls are highly unsightly and unhealthy, not to mention potentially damaging to your home. If you want to keep your home comfortable and mold free, go to http://www.hickenair.com/ to learn about modern solutions. Yes a dehumidifier can stop all of this, but only the right machine (did you also know that a good dehumidifier will reduce your heating bill?). After our long struggle to find a dehumidifier that worked and didn’t make a racket (If you have the time, you can read about it here – Best Dehumidifiers For The Home), we eventually found a model that has worked extremely well for us. Struggling through poor quality models and subsequently establishing this website, has forced us to become (sadly!), a little knowledgeable on the subject.
Delonghi Dehumidifier
Of all the machines we have tested for reviews, we have found the Delonghi Dehumidifier DEM10 to be our favourite. We recently reviewed it in-depth (see- Delonghi DEM10 Review) but here’s a list of the key features:
- 10 litres per day extraction rate (set at maximum rate)
- Fully adjustable humidistat
- 2 litre tank
- Tank has a visible water line
- Tank automatically turns off if it gets full
- Plumbing supplied to continuously drain into a sink or water butt
- Top-mounted carrying handle
- Washable dust filter (no more expensive replacements)
- Low energy usage
- Extremely quiet
- Very efficient and powerful extraction
- Low price
The only downside to this product is the deeper dimension compared to other models in the Delonghi range, However the dehumidifier is still tiny with dimensions of 41.5 x 33.0 x 26cm – note that’s centimetres not inches! If the dehumidifier is for a cramped space, say in a boat or a motorhome, then you may want something less ‘thick’. In this case we would thoroughly recommend the Delonghi DES12 dehumidifier, which has the following dimensions: 48.5 x 37.5 x 19.0cm. As you can see, the machine is taller and wider than the Delonghi DEM10, however you may prefer the thinner nature of it. The DES12 is also slightly more powerful, less heavy and has a silver ion filter to kill bacteria, due to these points the DES12 is also a bit more expensive (Click here to check price).
Ebac Dehumidifier
Let’s now take a look at best dehumidifier Ebac has to offer, which is known as the Ebac 2650e dehumidifier (see our detailed review – Ebac 2650e Review). In short, this has all the bells and whistles you might want to have on a new dehumidifier, but whether that is worth the extra cash will depend on your personal situation. Here’s a list of the main features of the Ebac 2650e:
- 18 litres of water extraction daily
- 3.5 litre bucket
- Continuous drain plumbing
- Very Quiet
- Made in the UK
- 5 year guarantee
- Smart Control
Here’s an explanation of how Ebac’s ‘smart control’ system works, he certainly explains it better than I could!
The smart control system really sets the Ebac 2560e apart from the rest. Other points of difference include the 18 litres of extraction daily, which is an enormous amount and will easily control the humidity of a large family home. I wonder though, clearly the machine is very powerful, but how often will the machine need to be running that powerfully for? The 10L daily extraction of the Delonghi DEM10 Dehumidifier is generally more than ample. Despite being more powerful, the Ebac is just as quiet as the Delonghi so no issues there. The larger front load bucket is a bonus if you aren’t able to site the dehumidifier next to a sink to take advantage on the continuous drain facility. With normal use, you’ll probably need to empty the bucket twice a week. The 5 year guarantee is a real plus point, as even though these machines are highly reliable, the piece of mind is wonderful. On top of this, I’m sure many people will appreciate the fact that the machines are produced in the UK.
Conclusions
So we’ve looked at the differences between the two brands and they’ve both shown to be good options and it’s really down to personal preference which of the brands you decide upon, but you will not be disappointed with either. The Delonghi DEM10 Dehumidifier is an excellent machine and will do anything and everything that you could ask of it, the price is also excellent. If you would prefer a taller model with a few more bells and whistles, then you would not go far wrong with the Delonghi DES12 Dehumidifier. Finally, the Ebac 2650e Dehumidifier is really the cream of the crop for those who want a British made, very powerful machine, with the unique Smart Control system.

I personally reckon DeLonghi is good. I don’t have any experience with Ebac and Delonghi works good for me.

I really liked this Dimplex dehumidifier for the season and a half that it lasted.

I’ve had 3 EBACs and 1 DeLonghi. All the EBACS have broken within 1 to 3 years. The DeLonghi is going strong 14 years later.
