The LED control panel is one of the best aspects of the EXD15DN3W.
Moving from left to right across the control panel, the first button resets the ‘clean filter’ warning that illuminates after 250 hours of usage. This is a fine dust filter than can be cleaned by giving it a quick vacuum and then running it under the tap. The filter is removed for cleaning by removing the water collection bucket and sliding the filter downwards into the gap left by the bucket. It’s a shame that the appliance doesn’t come with a proper antibacterial filter or an ioniser, although these are quite rare on refrigerant dehumidifiers.
The next button sets the fan speed, of which there are two to choose from. I like that Electrolux have made the fan speed an independent function, so you always have the choice between quietness and dehumidifying power, depending upon what the conditions demand.
The next two buttons turn the relative humidity up and down and the selected humidity is displayed on the LCD display above them. You can choose a relative humidity between 35% and 85% in 5% increments, but remember that 40% to 60% relative humidity is the ideal range. When you first turn the EXD15DN3W dehumidifier on you’ll notice that the LCD screen displays ‘CO’, which is the continuous mode and runs the machine on maximum dehumidifying power and the highest fan speed. Electrolux recommend that you leave this setting on for the first three to four days at least, until your home has stopped, in their words, “sweating” (a horrible thought I know!). Once this period is complete you can then set your desired humidity.
You can go back to ‘continuous’ mode at any time by reducing the humidity below the 35% setting and this is equivalent to what other dehumidifiers would call ‘laundry’ or ‘turbo’ mode. This mode could be very useful for drying clothes quickly in winter, for giving the machine a boost after a long shower, or to help dry out a particularly damp room quickly.

The next button is for the timer. The great thing about the timer setting on the Electrolux EXD15DN3W versus other dehumidifiers is that you can delay the start time as well as control how long it runs for. It’s also better than most because of the high level of adjustment available. Up to 10 hours you’re able to set the timer in 30-minute increments and between 10 and 24 hours in 1-hour increments, which is very useful to make use of cheaper energy overnight or if you want to run it for a short period of time (e.g. just while drying clothes).
Obviously the next button is the on/off switch.
The only thing that we haven’t mentioned is that there’s a ‘bucket full’ light on the control panel. The machine shuts itself down to avoid overflows and illuminates the light when the bucket reaches maximum capacity.
Thankfully the ‘bucket full’ light won’t be illuminating as much as you’d find with other dehumidifiers as the water collection bucket is an enormous 5 litres. To put this into perspective, most other dehumidifiers in this class have a bucket of 2 litres. The bucket has a window on the front of the unit with a handy red float that indicates where the current water level is. It also has a lid and handle to make carrying it over to the sink or bath as easy a task as possible.
On the back of the appliance you’ll find the continuous drain valve, which will be a godsend should you be able to position the dehumidifier close to a drain and you’ll also find a handy cable wrap.
Portability
Being a refrigerant dehumidifier the Electrolux EXD15DN3W was never going to be particularly portable.
It weighs 12.7kg, which is just slightly above average for this size of machine. It measures 37.0cm wide by 50.3cm high by 29.3cm deep, which again is slightly above average for its class, but still much smaller than the dehumidifiers of a decade ago.
Thankfully Electrolux have done a decent job of mitigating this as a potential issue by mounting the appliance on castor wheels and giving it a neat pop-up carry handle.
Design
With the Product Reviews of The Electrolux EXD15DN3W does look quite different to other dehumidifiers available, however we quite like it. Somehow the the circular holes on the front grille and boxy proportions make it look quite modern.
Everything just seems very well thought out with this dehumidifier and to be honest from a design point of view we can’t fault it. The water collection bucket is on the front of the appliance, so it easy to access and has a viewing window, lid and handle. Also the control panel is well laid-out and easy to understand.
Quietness
One area where the dehumidifier doesn’t perform as well as hoped is in quietness. It produces 50dB of sound when it’s running on low, which is a little worse than it’s refrigerant dehumidifier competitors.
Thankfully with the fan speed always being selectable between low and high, if the noise is a nuisance you have the option to turn it down a bit.
If you’re going to keep the EXD15DN3W in a hallway (which is the ideal place to keep it, by the way) then you shouldn’t be bothered by the noise, but if you were wanting to keep it in your bedroom then you would need to be able to sleep with a bit of white noise in the background.
Effectiveness
Remember that as with all refrigerant dehumidifiers, despite the company claiming that the EXD15DN3W will extract 15 litres per day, this is measured under conditions that are way outside of what it’s ever likely to experience in a UK home. In fact, under UK conditions I’d only expect the EXD15DN3W to fill its 5 litre bucket about once every two days once it has bedded in to your home.
The Electrolux EXD15DN3W should be suitable for homes up to a smallish 4-bed in size.
Price & Conclusion of the Electrolux EXD15DN3W Review
The Electrolux EXD15DN3W is a quality, well designed refrigerant dehumidifier and I’d have no problem recommending it. The only thing to watch is that the RRP is a little steep, however they’re normally found well below the RRP at this shop, so make sure you don’t overpay and check that out.
